THE HISTORY OF MID OHIO VALLEY SHAG CLUB

The Mid Ohio Valley Shaggers was formed to preserve and promote beach music and shag dancing in Parkersburg, W.V.  Spending time in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. and with the Beckley and Charleston W.V. shag clubs, Tim Miller and Jan Hutchins came to realize that shag is more than a dance, it is a wonderful lifestyle.

They persuaded friends to teach informal lessons in an empty office at Miller Communications in January 2003 and introduced shag dance in this area.  In January 2004 they organized the first "Pinin' for the summer" party in the atrium at the Parkersburg Holiday Inn and invited the public to join shagging friends for workshops and dancing.  A winter "beach" party in this beautiful tropical setting was a great success and launched our dance club.

MOVS was offically formed in the spring of 2004 and our sister club in Charleston W.V. sponsored our membership in the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (ACSC).

With a lot of help and support from shag friends in surrounding areas, MOVS strives to bring the fun of beach music and the Carolina shag Dance to Parkersburg each week.
